  1. Hi V Shreyas,V. P Shravanl

The chameleon has several cell layers beneath its transparent skin. These layers are the source of the chameleon's color change. Some of the layers contain pigments, while others just reflect light to create new colors.

Several factors contribute to the color change. A popular misconception is that chameleons change color to match their environment. This isn't true. Light, temperature, and emotional state commonly bring about a chameleon's change in color. The chameleon will most often change between green, brown and gray, which co-incidentally often matches the background colors of their habitat

  2. Hi Shreya,
Skin color can be everything from very pale to very dark, and many shades in between. That's because of something called melanin, which is made in the epidermis. Some people call it pigment.

  3. Hi Thilak,
Shadows most often appear black because the visible light cannot make its way past the obstruction, if there is no light falling on an object then it will be black as there is no light to reflect. Shadows are very rarely completely black as there are usually reflections off surfaces and other light sources, which make their way into the shadowy area.
